La teoría cuántica es la teoría más fascinante que haya concebido la imaginación humana. Se apoya en cuatro principios: la complementariedad (que exige incorporar la intención del investigador al experimento); la incertidumbre (que establece un límite al hecho mismo de observar); la espontaneidad (que niega que la materia sea inerte o mecánica, y la muestra activa y respirando luz); y el entrelazamiento (que obliga a reconocer que todo está relacionado con todo, como decían Parmenides o Plotino). La filosofía entra en la propia teoría y los principios de libertad y reciprocidad espantan los fantasmas cartesianos del universo máquina. La intencionalidad del investigador se cuela en el experimento y la materia rehusa ser objetiva, reclamando su condición de sujeto. La formulación de la teoría cuántica se debe a un conjunto de físicos geniales, capitaneados por Niels Böhr y sus dos escuderos: Heisenberg y Pauli. Tuvo, además, dos grandes enemigos, tan geniales como los anteriores, Einstein y Schrödinger, que paradójicamente contribuyeron a establecerla.
